Spring isn’t just a change in season—it’s a symbol of renewal and bold beginnings. As the season of transformation, it reminds us that change is not only natural but necessary for growth. Meanwhile, our industry is transforming at a lightning-fast pace.
Of course, for many of you dear readers, the biggest industry transformation we face is being spurred by AI and it may look scary. I like to think that if we are willing to adapt, AI has the potential to elevate our careers by freeing up time for creativity, strategic thinking and innovation.
So how to focus on personal development or transformation in the age of AI?
#1 Have a Clear Vision
Define what transformation you want to achieve and own it. Is it a new role, leadership responsibilities, deeper technical skills or a better life balance? You need to clearly state your vision to yourself before you can manifest it or even share it with a mentor or manager. Make it a mantra!
#2 Don’t Be Afraid to Make Bold Decisions
When I was making a career move that I strongly felt would help me get closer to my goal, one of my favorite employees told me he would miss working with me, thanked me for being a great leader, and told me that he admired my ability to make bold decisions. A bold decision can be an unexpected career move, it can be a novel approach to an old problem, or it can be a lateral organizational move to try something different. Don’t be afraid – it will ultimately pay off.
#3 Use AI to Your Best Advantage
I think we should all embrace AI now. It can automate repetitive tasks and take you out of email hell . Language translation, creative support, research – those are all the obvious use cases. But the beauty of our industry is that we solve big problems! Think about how AI can get us to the point where science can be unleashed to solve some of the world’s biggest problems. Don’t you want to be a part of that?
#4 Know You are Worthy but Also Equal
A dose of humility is the counterbalance to bold decision making. As you move along your journey of career growth consider how you can bring people along with you. Treat them as equals no matter what their role. Those same people will help you nurture your beautiful garden of transformation.
Happy Spring!
